This is who we are...
July 10th, 2017
Roger Swenson Sr. founded Teckpak-Fitzall after many years of rebuilding transmissions in the St. Louis area. As he relocated both the retail transmission shop and his parts manufacturing business to Poplar Bluff, MO, he found the need to spend more and more of his time developing what the industry often refers to as 'widgets', items that save a great deal of time and money for rebuilders. After the elder Swenson suffered a stroke, his son Roger stepped up to head the business with Ronda Swenson in charge of sales.

Everybody knew dad and how he developed ideas from conversations he had with rebuilders. And how he took those ideas and produced products that met and expanded upon the industry's needs. In keeping with the TeckPak tradition today, we still rely on ideas from you the rebuilders that are brought in by our sales staff Ronda Swenson and Dale Williams as they attend weekend seminars. We are grateful for your sharing of knowledge and expertise as we continue to develop the TeckPak-Fitzall product line. Together, we create innovative products that are multi-fit and user friendly, that makes us all "The Idea People".
"This is our tradition," says TeckPak-Fitzall president Roger Jr., who grew up in the business. Like his father, Roger is intrigued by the problems that technicians are seeing in this ever-changing industry.
As an engineer, I know what we can and cannot make here. The question we always have is whether we can sell enough of an item to be profitable and get it to the rebuilder at a reasonable price. With that in mind, we are always looking in to things that will help with our product development. Recently, we acquired a 3D printer which is great for making prototypes and for manufacturing extremely low volume parts.
Roger begins by researching in the company's extensive reference library. We collect all of this information and categorized it because without it we cannot do what it takes to get a solution to the transmission shops, he says.

For example, we recently received a call from a rebuilder in North Platte, NE. He asked us about creating an adapter so people could use the later-model 47RE case in place of the older 518 case. Recognizing the need, we designed and developed a new adapter to solve this problem. We are putting this new product in to production even as you read this article.

TeckPak-Fitzall's main products are solenoids, solenoid master kits, harnesses, cooler line fittings, detent cables, conversion kits, bearings, shims, Posi-Products® electrical connectors and many other innovative products described as automatic [transmission] solutions.

Following is a listing of some of the new TeckPak-Fitzall products that have recently been added to their website and catalog.

• TCC Valve Replacement - addresses P-1870 and P-1724 codes that are experienced with 4L60E, 4L65E and 4L70E units starting in '04. With the new CANBUS setup, it can't be just a simple on/off because the system will set code and it would result a harsher shift. We addressed that situation with a valve inside a valve in order to preserve the shift and address the codes.

• Shift Cable Repair End Clip - for those same GM vehicles as well as the Ford CD4E with floor shifters we now provide the solution with a Shift Cable Repair End Clip. The original clips tend to get brittle and they will break unless the R&R tech. is very careful when he pulls them off. That would typically call for the installation of an entire new shift cable. TeckPak's new clip will repair the damage cable without requiring it to be replaced saving both time and money.

• Harness Repair Clips - for AX4S/N, AODE/4R70W, GM front- and rear-wheel drive four-speeds and Allison four- and five-speeds. Our improved design is narrower and will work with the engine's coil-pack connectors.

• Axle Stabilizer - for the Chrysler 62TE 6-speed transmission. This bearing & seal combination adds support to the axle and can be installed in seconds without removing the transmission.

• Pan Repair Nut - for the 5R55S/W units. The threaded insert in the OEM nuts have a tendency to work loose and allow fluid to leak. The TeckPak Repair nut is a big improvement over the OEM fix, because it also addresses the problem that occurs when the nut breaks loose from the pan. It doesn't matter if the nut's there or not, this will still seal without having to replace the pan. The existing bolt goes up through the center of the repair part and using both internal and external o-rings, creates a dependable seal that will not leak.

• Universal Cables – are now available in Self-Adjusting and Standard styles.

• Ford Radiator Repair Fittings - for '02-up Ford trucks and Explorers with metric threads. These fittings are designed to repair leaks where the cooler line cracks at the flare or to replace a bad fitting where they enter and exit the radiators. Though they do not look like the OEM fittings, the compression fitting design allows a better option to seal the leak and get the customer back on the road quickly without having to install a new radiator. They are available in both 3/8" & 1/2" sizes.

• Cooler Line Adapter Fitting - for the Allison 1000, 2000 & 2400 allows you to replace a late model (03-up) bell housing, which can be hard to find, with a less expensive & easier to find early model bell housing. The thread sizes of the new fittings are (3/4" - 16) to 5/8" push-in line.

In addition to repair and adaptive parts, TeckPak makes a line of specialty tools for the rebuilding aftermarket.
We've added a "dual threaded" mini slide hammer to TeckPak's tool line, Roger says. This tool has 3/8" threads on one end for attachments and 10mm threads on the other end for pulling pumps. At slightly under 2 lbs and 11" long this Slide Hammer is perfect for those hard to reach areas.
We also have available a new slide hammer attachment that allows the easy removal of those difficult "nail-head" type pins that are commonly found in the 4T65E, 6T70/75 and 6F40/45/50/55 transmissions.

Most TeckPak parts made at the plant are steel, brass or various plastics. We have a number of CNC machines and plastic injection machines to insure consistent quality products are manufactured to meet the industries need.

We are always available for our customers. TeckPak's phone number is on every catalog and on the website. We value your suggestions and questions. The tech, in the trenches, is both our customer and the one who feeds us ideas. At Teckpak-Fitzall, solving problems through innovation is our tradition. Let's keep-up the tradition together.

Allison Fittings - All 4 sizes available...
January 23rd, 2017
There are four different size fittings that are now available for the Allison transmissions.

The two things that you must determine before buying fittings for your Allison transmission are...

1) What size are the threads in the bellhousing?

     a) 3/4" threads ( found in bellhousing prior to 2003)

     b) 7/8" threads ( found in bellhousing 2003 - up)

2) What size are the transmission lines that will attach to the bellhousing?

     a) 5/8" line with "SHORT" 5/8" tip (pre-'03 & some early '03). Note: a 13/16" boxed wrench WILL NOT go over the flare.

     b) 5/8" line with "LONG" 7/8" tip (late '03-up).  Note: a 13/16" boxed wrench WILL go over the flare.

Fittings can be any of these combinations, so be sure to check the chart that is available in the "Support Information" section when looking at the Allison Fittings.

Which P1870 repair valve do I need???
August 4th, 2015
GM's P1870 & P1728 CODES... What the heck is wrong with my transmission!

What is a P1870 / P1728 code?
The P1870 (TCC Slip) code and P1728 (Transmission Slip Error), found mainly in vehicles with GM's 4L60E, 4L65E & 4L70E transmissions, refers to Torque Converter Slip usually caused by line pressure dropping so low that the converter has trouble staying locked-up.
This low pressure is most often due to wear in the TCC (Torque Converter Control) valves' bore, located in the valve body of the transmission. The original TCC valve is designed to soften the transmission's shift; by easing line pressure during the locking and un-locking of the torque converter. This was done by allowing a spring loaded valve to move back & forth in the transmissions' valve body as line pressure changes.
This back and forth movement causes excessive wear in the bore of the aluminum valve body. This wear allows fluid to bypass the valve, causing the line pressure to drop so low that the converter does not engage properly. The computer, seeing the pressure drop, then increases the pressure from the pump in order to get the converter to stay engaged. This higher pressure is what causes the rough 1-2 shift that often comes along with these codes.
What is OBD, OBD II or CANBUS control?
Your vehicle will have an OBD, OBD II or CANBUS computer that monitors your vehicles operating systems.
Early (96-02) model 4L60E's will have OBD or OBD II control systems.
The (03-06) model 4L60E's can have OBD, OBD II or CANBUS systems, depending on the vehicle.
All 2007-up vehicles will have CANBUS systems.
The best way to determine which system you have is to use a diagnostic code reader. Your diagnostic tool should tell you what system that it is connected to when you plug it in.
What difference does it make if I have an OBD, OBD II or CANBUS system?
The reason you need to know what computer system is in your vehicle when it concerns an 1870 / 1728 code is because...
1) OBD and OBD II systems are only monitoring to see if the torque converter is ON (Locked) or OFF (Unlocked). This means the TCC valve can simply be converted to turn the converter ON or OFF without causing the system to issue a code. Fitzall's A74741Q and A74741QA convert the TCC valve to an ON/OFF system. O-rings are used to seal the excessive wear in the bore and prevent fluid from bypassing around the valve.
2) A CANBUS system is programed to look for a small amount of TCC pressure drop in the TCC circuit before the converter dis-engages. This means the TCC valve must allow the back portion of the valve to move in order to release pressure and allow the CANBUS system to see a pressure drop. Fitzall's A74741CB TCC replacement valve has a spring loaded stem that allows that to happen. O-rings are also used to seal the excessive wear in the bore and prevent fluid from bypassing around the valve.
How can I fix the 1870 code?
There are several ways to fix this problem. Here are just a few of them...
1) Replace the OE valve with the TCC replacement valve from Fitzall.
2) Replace the valve body with a new or rebuilt valve body.
3) Send the valve body/transmission to a transmission shop to be rebuilt.
4) Ream out the valve body and replace the valve with an oversized valve.
The Fitzall TCC replacement valve is by far the least expensive and easiest way to go. The Fitzall TTC valve can even be replaced without removing the valve body from the vehicle. Check out the video & instruction sheets for the A74741Q ('96-'99), A74741QA ('00-'02) and A74741CB ('01-up) to see just how easy this is done.
Note: If you are unsure what system your vehicle has... I recommend using Fitzall's A74741CB because it will work on all '01-up units. Just make sure that your valve body has not been previously rebuilt (blue mark on valve body).

Cadillac Axle Leaking???
December 22nd, 2014
A worn extension housing bushing can lead to extension housing seal failure in the 4T80E.
This wear normally accures on the drivers side because more torque is generated there.
Now instead of pulling the transmission to replace the bushing ... which can be an all day job,
you can replace the OEM seal with Teckpak-Fitzall's 4T80E Axle Stabilizer.
The Axle Stabilizer (#94125LB) provides not only a new axle seal, but also a bearing that
is designed to support and stabilizes the axle.

NOTE: The 4T80E's slip yoke will require machining
down to between 1.571 - 1.574 to use this product.
